asecap MKIF

MKIF

https://mkif.hu/en/

According to the agreement between MKIF Zrt. and the Hungarian State the concession period began on 1 September 2022. The roads remain the property of the state, while the MKIF is responsible for their operation, maintenance and development. The Concession Contract has a duration of 35 years, after which—by 2057—a fully renovated road network will be returned to the Hungarian state. Throughout the entire period, tolls will continue to be set and collected by the State, and the availability fee paid to the Concessionaire is financed from a portion of this toll revenue.

As of 1 September 2022, 889 former Hungarian Roads Plc. employees were taken over by the Concession Company while maintaining continuous employment. MKIF now employs around 1,050 people across 20 operation and maintenance centres.

Currently, 1,279 km of motorway are in operation under the concession.

During the 35 years concession period:
- 278 km are designated for new construction,
- 299 km for the extension of existing motorways, and
- 161 km of motorway is built by the State and then handed over for operation.

By the end of the development period, a total of 1,672 km will be in operation.
The State expects a higher level of service than before the concession. This includes more frequent mowing works, faster repair of defects, earlier initiation of de-icing activities and more regular cleaning of rest areas. The quality of service and operations is continuously monitored by the Technical Representative (technical inspector) appointed by the Hungarian State.

The Availability Fee (AF) is defined as the fee payable by the Grantor for the development and operation of new motorways, for the lane extension of specific existing motorways and related network elements, as well as for their subsequent operation under the Contract. In cases of non-performance or lane closures, the availability fee is reduced proportionally to the extent of the non-performance or non-availability.

asecap Via Pribina

Via Pribina

https://www.viapribina.sk

Via Pribina is Slovakia’s first public–private partnership of its kind, delivered 15 years ago through a collaboration between VINCI Highways (a subsidiary of VINCI Concessions), Meridiam, and the Slovak Ministry of Transport. As the country’s inaugural PPP in the highway sector, it set a new benchmark for project delivery, long-term asset management, and responsible governance. Now fully operated and maintained by Via Pribina Operations, it remains one of Europe’s fastest-built infrastructures, with the first 45 km completed in just two years.

The expressway is part of an important European corridor connecting Vienna with Ukraine. Spanning 51.6 km and crossing more than 70 bridges, it offers not only a comfortable drive but also scenic views.

Safety improvements have been substantial, and since the opening of Via Pribina, the old Zlatomoravecká road has achieved an 80% reduction in accidents.

To ensure uninterrupted, high-quality service, Via Pribina Operations runs a 24/7 Operations and Maintenance Centre covering 30,000 m² and staffed by 50 professionals. Road availability exceeded 99% in 2022, supported by a nonstop SOS line and 35 CCTV cameras.

At critical intersections in Banská Bystrica, AI-powered object-recognition counter-flow cameras have prevented more than 80 potentially dangerous contraflows in the past two years.

In 2025, Via Pribina completed the full replacement of the asphalt layers in both directions of the highway.

Sustainability is integrated throughout the operation of the highway. LED installations together with 96 photovoltaic panels have halved electricity consumption at the Operations Centre. In addition, the highway supports local beekeepers with more than 80 beehives in the region and continues to expand its wild meadows, now in partnership with WWF.

Via Pribina demonstrates how a well-structured PPP with VINCI Highways and Meridiam delivers long-term value through safety, innovation, and sustainability.
